Founded by the late manibhai g. Patel in 1935, was essentially a company dealing in tea and tobacco. It was in 1968 that k. Manibhai&co. As is known today was formed and set up as an export house. It obtained certificate of recognition as export house from the government of india. At one estate we have 100% converted to organic farming with a crop of 1million kgs. Patel has been a member of the indian tea board and chairman of federation of all india tea traders' association. The company has witnessed immense growth and at present its activities include trading and exports on the one hand and manufacture and processing on the other. Trading and export Main commodities export: Tea, shellac. Other commodities export: Tobacco, spices, jute goods, coffee and rice. Manufacture and processing The group turnover is 400 million(approxusd 12 million). The group employs 2300 people and nearly double during tea plucking. Strength in tea The company produces 3.0 million kg of high grade teas from its own four estates including the famous belseri estate. These teas are packed on the estates. All these teas qualify for the 100% regional seal of origin, equivalent to packed teas. Highlight of the company right now is that one of the tea estates in assam is geared towards 100% organic tea. This is the 3rd successful year towards this method of farming with this year no chemicals or fertilizers are going to be used in the tea estate. The company is underway in developing a packaging for this tea as there is a growing population nationwide&worldwide for healthy chemical residue free tea. This is the first unique tea estate in this region of assam producing this tea. The company is one of the top premium quality tea companies on the indian market. It sells 'garden fresh' packed teas. The company has won a gold medal for its imperial tea caddy at the leipzig international fair, germany. The 'imperial' brand is available as vacuum - packed leaf teas and as tea bags. The company would also soon capitalise on its production expertise by selling under exclusive contract directly top european retail groups. Vast sales and purchasing Network across india The company has vast network of branches to coordinate all its activities and to ensure smooth functioning. It has internal sales offices in mumbai and gujarat(nadiad)and offices in calcutta, guwahati, cochin and siliguri to facilitate the auctions-buying and selling.
