The Behn Meyer Group, established since 1840, consists of companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Jamaica and Germany. The expansion of the Behn Meyer Group's business required the opening of more branches and sales offices in Malaysia. Under Behn Meyer & Go (M) Sdn Bhd, which was incorporated in December 1959, there are now seven branches and sales offices located in Penang and Johor Bahru in Peninsula Malaysia, Kuching and Bintulu in Sarawak, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Sandakan in Sabah. The establishment of Behn Meyer Industries Pte Ltd in 1968 and Behn Meyer Engineering Sdn Bhd in 1972 underscored the Group's commitment to undertake manufacturing of engineering products and provide technical after-sales service in Singapore and throughout Malaysia. In 1980, the Group formed a partnership with FELDA, the Federal Land Development Authority Malaysia, and established FPM Sdn Bhd. The joint venture company's plant at Pasir Gudang, Johor, produces granular multi-nutrient fertilizers. The Behn Meyer sales organization is one of the distributors for these fertilizers. Today, Behn Meyer represents more than 150 international companies in the main fields of its activities. In order to serve the increasingly sophisticated requirements of its customers, the Group in 1993 reorganized its business in Malaysia into specialized companies, each dealing with specific product lines. These specialized companies are Behn Meyer & Co (M) Sdn Bhd for fertilizers and crop protection products, in which M/S Felda Enterprises Sdn Bhd (part of the Felda Group) has become an additional shareholder since 1994; Behn Meyer Kimia Sdn Bhd for the wide range of chemicals, plastic resins and process machinery; and Behn Meyer International Trading Sdn Bhd for paper and boards as well as for the export business. Behn Meyer Engineering Sdn Bhd continues to be involved in the supply and installation of overhead travelling cranes and hoists as well as in the supply of container cabins for the telecommunications industry. In addition, the company provides regional after-sales service for mobile harbour cranes. To ensure the best possible services for the Group's customers, all companies are staffed with experts in their fields, many of whom are university graduates. In 1994, the Group further enhanced its network by establishing a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Reflecting the development since its founding, the scope and the dimensions of Behn Meyer today must far exceed the wildest dreams of the founders August Behn and Valentin Lorenz Meyer and of Arnold Otto Meyer as well as others who directed its affairs from Singapore and Hamburg for so many years. Behn Meyer directors and staff of today have inherited a high reputation in the region and are committed to maintaining and enhancing this in the years ahead.
