The belt filter press is a continuous-feed dewatering device that applies chemical conditioning, gravity draining, and mechanical pressure to dewater sludge. The sludge/slurry is sandwiched between tensioned belts and rolls, by passing those belts through a serpentine of decreasing diameter rolls to remove the moistures and then dispose of the sludge cake.

An essential advantage of the belt press compared to other dewatering processes is the possibility to enlarge the capacity for high throughput by extending the pre-dewatering zone of the belt filter press
