Description : Kerala - “Gods own country†- endowed with astounding natural beauty is equally famous for its amazing variety of handicrafts - “Gods own crafts†- the exquisite master-pieces from Kerala’s craftsmen and artisans.
SURABHI - Kerala State Handicrafts Apex Co-operative Society, established in 1964, markets the glorious arts & crafts created by over 30, 000 artisans of 102 Co-operative societies.It has 19 sales showrooms inside and outside the State, and is sponsored by Central and State Governments.
Our products include varieties of handicrafts in Rosewood, Sandalwood, Whitewood, Jointwood, Banana Fibre, koragrass, Screwpine, Papermache, Cane & Bamboo, Paintings, Bell Metal, Brass, Aluminium, Clay, Straw Picture, Coconut Shell, Conch Shell, Horn etc. The society has an Export & Exhibition Division at Ernakulam.
In addition to this, the society has set up a Craft Development Centre at Kaloor, Ernakulam for training and developing new designs and a Craft Marketing Complex at Kovalam, (Trivandrum) the international tourist centre, for exhibition cum sale of various handicrafts of the country. In order to encourage young craft persons and new artisans, craft competitions are conducted by the society. The society undertakes welfare activities like construction of 'House cum workshed' and offers financial assistance to artisans & their families. |
