Description : As Rana Bhim Singh, 19th Century ruler of mewar, Rajasthan, reflected on his life, he was overcome by despair. His state, now totally powerless, was surrounded by enemies threatening and waiting to strike. The most ominous were the states of Jaipur and Marwar. Not because they had their eyes on Bhim Singh's kingdom. But because their princess had set their sights on his beautiful daughter, Krishna Kumari.
Bhim Singh was caught between the devil and the deep sea. To let his daughter go would be a blemish on fatherhood. but to refuse, would mean out and out war.
When the 16 year old beauty heard of her father's predicament, she decided to uphold the heroic tradition of her people and die, rather than plunge her kingdom in to war. With a smile, she drank poison made from kasumba blossom, as if it were nectar. And embraced death inside krishna vilas of the Udaipur palace, in a room still preserved the way it was.
