Rubber unit was formally formed in the year 2001 as a Production center for rubber elements used in Industrial and marine Flexible coupling. The unit is a part of Vulkan Technologies Private Limited that in turn is a 100% Subsidiary unit of VULKUN KUPPLUNGS – GERMANY. The basic purpose was to produce and export rubber elements for parent organization in Germany and local markets for Flexible coupling. To overcome the basic problem inherited in rubber units of India in terms of material handling and control of overall manufacturing process, sufficient care has been taken by designing a well defined lay out system starting from storing of in-warded chemicals to the end of testing of elements after manufacturing. The items planned for production were of very large size compared to conventional general moulded rubber elements and for this reason the suitable specification were derived for designing of moulding presses as well as other rubber processing machineries. As a result the process is found to be more comfortable in terms of manufacturing of smaller size components due to inherent additional safety factors added very initially in the specification of processing machineries and the infrastructure associated with production. From a single 400 Ton with a Platen size of 1000 X 1000 MM gigantic and modern automatic PLC controlled moulding press now the unit is equipped with 10 numbers of such big size presses for production. The process of manufacturing involves the Transfer moulding technology to transfer rubber of about 30 kg in an element during moulding in less than 3 minutes without having any mould defect. The basic Elastomers as of today used for production are General-purpose rubber, Silicones, Nitrile rubber and Hydrogenated Nitrile rubber. The moulds for making critical rubber to metal bonded components are manufactured in a sophisticated vendor equipped with CNC wire cutting machines, CNC Milling and Turning, Spark erosion and include all other relevant mould making machineries. Compound design has turned to be more science than art and unit is capable of deriving suitable rubber compound pertaining to any type of industrial application. In an international seminar on Vulkan group organized in Pune, India there were participants all over the world and it was indeed a great pleasure to listen the satisfaction level bestowed on the unit by the participants even in comparison with other renowned rubber organization in European countries. The confidence level was high with stable consistent production and the unit has started manufacturing to critical rubber elements like Anti-vibration mounting, isolators, shock absorbers and likewise for export purpose and VULKAN DMR is a renowned customer for the same. The diversification did not take any extra burden on the existing system from manufacturing of Flexible coupling element to Engine mounts because of initially well thought planning for production and the unit is committed to satisfy customer on providing any custom design rubber elements with value added product and services. The rubber unit is controlled under experienced managers from management and technical fields and the employees skilled are right blend of qualification and experience.
