Description : ELCINA Electronic Industries Association of India (Formerly Electronic Component Industries Association) was established in 1967 when India's Electronic industry was still in its infancy. The strategic importance of this industry came to be realised with the presentation of the Bhabha Committee Report in 1965. Yet, the progress was very slow. Pioneers in the field felt the urgent need for a forum to exchange views on important issues and to solve common problems with a view to ensuring accelerated development of the component sector. The discussions among the captains of the industry led to the birth of ELCINA, which marked the beginning of an important chapter in India's industrial policy.
Given the dynamics of the electronics sector, ELCINA attempts to identify new companies, so that together with them, it represents the voice of Indian electronics industry and promote hardware manufacturing. Apart from this basic objective of promoting hardware manufacturing through active representation and contacts in the Government and other institutions like scientific and industry/trade organisations both in India and abroad, a host of professional and value-added services are provided by the Association. These services are tailored to serve the best interest of Members and are constantly upgraded to cater to their needs. Responding to the demand from a large section keen to avail ELCINA services, a Subscriber Club was launched recently with membership open to any individual or organisation concerned with the electronics sector.
As India's oldest and largest electronics Association, ELCINA has always remained committed to the promotion of electronics manufacturing culture in the country focusing on components-the building blocks of electronics industry. ELCINA represents an effective forum for correlating the common interest of electronic component manufacturers with that of equipment, material and machinery procedures for accelerating the progress of the electronics industry as a whole. With manufacturing being the prime objective, the Association's concerns are intimately linked with the development of entire electronics hardware segment-consumer electronics, telecom, computer/IT, industrial/professional, defence/strategic electronics and other emerging areas like medical and automobile electronics.
ELCINA, as a forward looking and dynamic organisation, recognises the urgency to promote an efficient and vibrant indigenous manufacturing base through a very clear industry-specific blueprint at this critical phase of transition (with the ongoing economic reforms). The Association has taken the initiative to create awareness on hardware manufacturing drawing up a well defined agenda for both - the Government as well as the industry. ELCINA believes that the Government and the industry need to work together to stimulate manufacturing and catalyse an electronics boom that is sustainable.
In sync with this philosophy, ELCINA is persistently working for changes that would strengthen India's electronics manufacturing base so that value addition by the electronics industry attains a significant share in India's GDP with concomitant generation of large scale employment and foreign exchange.
