Andrographolide is a labdane diterpenoid. It is the main bioactive component of the Indian medicinal plant Andrographis paniculata (Kaalmegh). Andrographolide is an extremely bitter substance extracted from the plant.

It is used in Ayurvedic formulations or Herbal medicines for its laxative, antipyretic, antiperiodic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, expectorant, antihelmintic, digestive and stomachic properties. It is also used for general debility, dyspepsia, ulcers and dysentery amongst adults. It stimulates the immune system by boosting the body’s production of antibodies and other responses to the threat of infection.
