Description : Kochi Refineries Limited, a subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, has posted an all time high turnover of Rs 17,931 crores for the financial year 2005-06. This is a 16 per cent leap over the last FY’s turnover that was Rs 15451 crores.
The profit before tax came down to Rs 324 crores while the net profit stood at Rs.211 crores. The corresponding figures in the last financial year were an all time high profit before tax of Rs.1193 crores and profit after tax of Rs 842 crores. The dip in the net profit this year is mainly due to the discount offered to Oil Marketing Companies (approx Rs 350 crores) and reduction in tariff protection (approx Rs 300 crores).
KRL has surpassed previous records in the production of products like ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) touching 155,733 metric tonnes (MT) (previous best 139,243 mt), Mineral Turpentine Oil,53170 mt (previous best 52,747 mt) and Sulphur 19,733 mt (previous best 16,880 mt). With two major planned shutdowns in the process units, the crude thruput stood at 6.94 million metric tonnes (mmt). Last year KRL had a record thruput of 7.92 mmt.
Other operational highlights: KRL has been awarded Level-8 by M/s Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in the ISRS audit conducted in December 2005. The quality control facilities has received ISO 17025 certificate of accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL), under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. The certification is valid for a period of three years from 20 September 2005. For the first time, Acoustic Emission Testing is being used for the inspection of pressure vessels and storage tanks.
KRL Quality Control Department is participating in Shell Main Products Correlation Scheme (SMPCS), organised by M/s Shell Global Solutions, UK from November 2005. More than hundred reputed laboratories all over the world are participating in this programme to test their proficiency. KRL Quality Control has so far received two certificates from M/s Shell Global Solutions for achieving 100% score on Gas Oil and Gasolene sample testings conducted in January 2006 and March 2006 respectively.
